Higgins commits to Saint Mary’s University

The Truro Bearcats have announced that forward Ben Higgins has committed to Saint Mary’s University for the 2020-21 season.

The 21-year-old from Bible Hill, N.S. was a territorial draft selection of the Bearcats in the 2015 MHL Entry Draft. He was an immediate addition to Truro, finishing the 2015-16 season fourth in team scoring. Higgins had 13 goals and 14 assists in 47 games for the Bearcats in the regular season and added another goal in the playoffs as Truro dropped a seven-game series to South Shore. He was also named the Pro Design Cresting Rookie of the Month for January 2016.

After three seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL, Higgins returned to Truro for the 2019-20 campaign. He was named captain and finished the regular season tied for third in league scoring with 81 points. Higgins’ 39 goals were tied for the third-best total in the MHL to go with 42 assists.
