Notes

  • The Grand Falls Rapids have made the playoffs for the first time since the move from Woodstock before the 2018-19 season. The franchise was last in the playoffs in 2015-16, losing to the Dieppe Commandos (now the Edmundston Blizzard) in the first round.
  • The Chaleur Lightning celebrated their first season in Bathurst by clinching a playoff spot. The team was last in the post-season in 2023-24 as the Fredericton Red Wings, where they were swept in the first round by Edmundston.
  • The Rapids are 12-3-1-0 since the trade deadline on January 10th and finished the regular season as the hottest team in the league, rattling off ten wins in a row, two of which were against Chaleur. The Lightning are 12-7-0-0 over that same stretch.
  • Except for the first meeting of the season, the margin of victory between these teams was two or fewer goals.
  • Chaleur’s Ben Cross, Zachary Rushton, and Jack Hayne were all in the top-20 in league scoring, with Cross finishing second to Amherst’s Anthony Gaudet. For Grand Falls, Coen Miller, Jonah Leard, and Loïc Francoeur were also in the top-20 this season, all within five points of each other.
  • Cross led the MHL with sixteen powerplay goals, and Chaleur were 4th in powerplay percentage this season, but they only went 7 for 39 (17.9%) against Grand Falls with the man advantage. On the flip side, Grand Falls was very efficient, going 12 for 28 (42.9%) on the powerplay against the Lightning.
  • The goaltending battle will be something to watch in this series between the Rapids’ Adam Lecours and Chaleur’s Jack Flanagan. Lecours led the MHL with 25 wins and was top-5 in most goaltending statistics. Flanagan, meanwhile, is already an MHL champion from Miramichi’s run in 2024. Acquired at the trade deadline, he actually has a higher goals against average and lower save percentage with Chaleur than he had with the Timberwolves, but he has the pedigree for a long playoff run.
