Truro, N.S. (July 23, 2021) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) is pleased to announce the final two awards for the 2020-21 season:
Moe Bent Builders Award
“The Moe Bent Builders Award is an important honour for our league,” says Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) President Steve Dykeman. “It’s given to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the MHL in a particular year or over a longer period of time.”
The Builder for the 2020-21 has been recognized by both the Executive and the league’s twelve teams for his efforts to help bring some order to the chaos of last season. His work on scheduling, press releases, the league’s Return to Play committee from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic onward, with the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL), as well as the MHL’s branding, imaging, and overall communications was critical to the league’s success in 2020-21.
“We are fortunate to have an Executive that goes above and beyond because they love the game and are committed to helping the MHL evolve and grow,” says Dykeman. “Congratulations to James Faulkner, the recipient of the 2021 Moe Bent Builders Award.”
Faulkner joined the MHL’s Executive early into the 2018-19 season as Director of Communications. In addition to his role with the league, Faulkner has been the play-by-play voice of the Truro Bearcats since 2010-11. He’s been behind the microphone for a number of events for HockeyTV such as the 2013 Fred Page Cup and the 2017 World Junior A Challenge, both hosted in Truro, and covered the 2018 Eastern Canada Cup Challenge in Trenton, Ontario for the MHL.
President’s Award
The MHL is pleased to announce the creation of the President’s Award, a scholarship in honour of an individual that has made a unique contribution to the overall health of the league.
“COVID-19 forced us to think differently and to innovate around the health and safety of our players, staff, volunteers, and fans,” says Dykeman. “We appointed a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to advise the league and its teams around our Return to Play protocol. Our CMO also liaised with other CMOs in the three Maritime Provinces”.
Dr. William Johnston was an invaluable resource to the League over the past season, taking calls day and night. He helped counsel the MHL through some very stressful times.
The Maritime Junior Hockey League has created a $1,000 Science Scholarship to honor Johnston’s commitment to hockey, health, and the league. The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving player that will be pursuing post-secondary studies in the field of Science starting in the 2021-22 season.

La LHM annonce ses derniers prix de la saison 2020-2021
Truro, N.-É. (23 juillet 2021) – La Ligue de hockey junior des Maritimes (LMH) est heureuse d’annoncer les deux derniers prix pour la saison 2020-2021 :
Prix Moe Bent Builders
« Le prix Moe Bent Builders est un honneur important pour notre ligue, a déclaré Steve Dykeman, président de la Ligue de hockey junior des Maritimes (LHM). Il est remis à une personne qui a apporté une contribution significative à la LHM au cours d’une année donnée ou sur une plus longue période. »
Le nom du Bâtisseur de la saison 2020-2021 a été retenu à la fois par le Bureau de direction et les douze équipes pour ses efforts visant à mettre de l’ordre dans la dernière saison.
Son travail sur l’établissement répété des horaires et les communiqués de presse, avec le comité de retour au jeu de la ligue, avec la Ligue de hockey junior canadienne (LHJC), ainsi que son apport sur l’image de marque, le produit et les communications globales de la LHM ont été essentiels au succès de la Ligue de hockey junior des Maritimes en 2020-2021.
« Nous sommes chanceux d’avoir un bureau de direction qui vise toujours plus haut parce que les membres aiment le hockey et s’engagent à aider la LHM à évoluer et à grandir, a déclaré Dykeman. Félicitations à James Faulkner, le récipiendaire du prix Moe Bent Builders 2021. »
Faulkner s’est joint au Bureau de direction de la LHM au début de la saison 2018-2019 en tant que directeur des communications. En plus de son rôle dans la ligue, Faulkner est la voix des Bearcats de Truro depuis 2010-2011. Il a été au micro pour un certain nombre d’évènements pour HockeyTV tels que la Coupe Fred Page 2013 et le Défi mondial junior A 2017, tous deux organisés à Truro, et a couvert le Défi de la Coupe de l’Est du Canada 2018 à Trenton, en Ontario, pour la LHM.
Prix du président
La LHM est heureuse d’annoncer la création du Prix du président, une bourse en l’honneur d’une personne qui a apporté une contribution unique à la santé globale de la ligue.
« La COVID-19 nous a obligés à penser différemment et à innover autour de la santé et de la sécurité de nos joueurs, de notre personnel, de nos bénévoles et de nos partisans, a déclaré Dykeman. Nous avons nommé un médecin-hygiéniste en chef (MHC) pour conseiller la ligue et ses équipes sur notre protocole de retour au jeu. Notre MHC a également assuré la liaison avec d’autres MHC dans les trois provinces maritimes.
Le Dr William Johnston a été une ressource inestimable pour la ligue au cours de la dernière saison, répondant aux appels jour et nuit. Il a aidé à conseiller la LHM à travers des moments très stressants.
La Ligue de hockey junior des Maritimes a créé une bourse de 1 000 $ en sciences pour honorer l’engagement de Johnston envers le hockey, la santé et la ligue. La bourse sera décernée à un joueur méritant qui poursuivra des études postsecondaires dans le domaine des sciences à compter de la saison 2021-2022.
