Truro, N.S. (June 4, 2020) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) is pleased with Hockey Canada’s statement today regarding a return to the ice. The Return to Hockey plan has determined that the best approach is to allow each of the country’s thirteen branches to work with authorities in their respective regions to determine when it is safe to return to the ice in areas under their jurisdiction.
The MHL has been in regular communication with Hockey Canada, the Canadian Junior Hockey League, and other stakeholders on when it might be safe to begin the 2020-21 season. The discussions are also centred on advice and recommendations from provincial governments and their respective health authorities. Hockey Canada’s Return to Hockey plan includes lengthy guidelines surrounding facilities, hygiene, cleaning, and other recommended procedures, which will form the basis of the MHL’s own plan.
As Hockey Canada points out, it is imperative to note that we are not yet ready to return to the game across the country. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic varies from region to region, even in the Maritimes. By allowing the MHL to work with Hockey New Brunswick, Hockey Nova Scotia, and Hockey P.E.I. on a return to the ice, the league can ensure safety measures and rules are in place to protect players, team staff, volunteers, and fans. There is currently no timeline as to when this might be achieved, but the MHL’s Board of Governors is optimistic it will be this fall.
The MHL is looking forward to continuing speaking with all involved on a plan of action to bring hockey back to our twelve communities and surrounding areas. More information will be released when available.

La LHM accueille favorablement le plan de retour au jeu de Hockey Canada

Truro, N.-É. (4 juin 2020) – La Ligue de hockey junior des Maritimes (LHM) accueille favorablement la déclaration de Hockey Canada aujourd’hui concernant un retour au jeu. Selon le plan élaboré, il a été déterminé que la meilleure approche consiste à permettre à chacune des 13 associations du pays de travailler avec les autorités de leurs régions respectives pour déterminer quand il est sécuritaire de retourner sur la patinoire dans les zones sous leur juridiction.
La LHM a établi des liens de communication constants avec Hockey Canada, la Ligue canadienne de hockey junior et d’autres intervenants pour discuter du moment où il pourrait être prudent de commencer la saison 2020-2021. Les discussions sont également centrées sur les conseils et recommandations des gouvernements provinciaux et de leurs autorités de la santé publique. Le plan de retour au jeu de Hockey Canada comprend de longues lignes directrices concernant les installations, l’hygiène, le nettoyage et d’autres procédures recommandées, qui constitueront la base du propre plan de la LHM.
Comme le note Hockey Canada, il est impératif de souligner que nous ne sommes pas prêts à reprendre la pratique du hockey à travers le pays. L’impact de la pandémie de la COVID-19 varie d’une région à une autre, même dans les Maritimes. En permettant à la LHM de travailler avec Hockey Nouveau-Brunswick, Hockey Nova Scotia et Hockey P.E.I. à propos du retour du hockey, la ligue peut s’assurer que des mesures et des règles de sécurité sont en place pour protéger les joueurs, le personnel des équipes, les bénévoles et les partisans. Il n’y a actuellement aucun calendrier quant à la date de la reprise des activités, mais le conseil d’administration de la LHM est optimiste que ce sera cet automne.
La LHM a hâte de continuer à parler avec toutes les personnes impliquées sur un plan d’action pour ramener le hockey dans nos douze communautés et les régions avoisinantes. Plus d’informations seront publiées lorsqu’elles seront disponibles.
