MHL’s AGM and Draft Weekend Set to Take Place in Wolfville/Berwick, NS This Weekend

The MHL returns to action off the ice starting today in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley.

The league’s Annual General Meetings will be held today and tomorrow at The Old Orchard Inn in Wolfville while the MHL Entry Draft will take place on Saturday, June 9th at the King’s Mutual Century Center in Berwick. Various topics related to both on ice as well as off ice aspects of the league will be discussed and decided upon while hockey operations staff from all 12 teams construct their rosters for the coming season and beyond.

“With everyone so busy throughout the hockey season, the opportunity to meet face to face as one group to discuss important topics and represent our league is both rare and exciting,” Whitehead remarked. “The MHL looks forward to spending this year’s AGM and draft weekend in the Valley and thanks the host committee and Valley Wildcats for what I’m sure will be a memorable event.”

On Thursday night the League’s Board of Governors will meet for what will be the first of two sessions over the first two days of the event. The league’s General Managers will also convene with league executive on Thursday night.

Friday morning will see the conclusion of the league’s Annual General Meeting among the Board the Governors and league executive. The highlight of the afternoon will be the annual Jed Ritcey Golf Challenge at Berwick Heights Golf Course. The late Mr. Ritcey was a former league executive as well as a board member with Hockey Canada. He is the father of current MHL Chairman of the Board of Governors and past league President Dave Ritcey.

Saturday morning will begin with the QMJHL Supplementary Draft followed at approximately 12:45PM with the announcement of the final award winners for the 2017-18 MHL season, including the MHL Community Spirit Award, the Roger Meek Executive of the Year Award and the Moe Bent Builders’ Award, which honors a person that has had a long standing impact on the success of the MHL and its member teams. At 1PM, the 24th Annual MHL Entry Draft will take place. The eight round draft will cap off a busy three days for all teams and executive.

As well, teams that have made Territorial Draft selections will formally announce these picks during the course of Saturday’s Entry Draft. These selections were initially released on Monday evening.
