The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers are pleased to announce the signing of Phil Fife as the team’s new Head Coach and General Manager.
Fife joins the team after spending the past three seasons in Saskatchewan as an assistant coach for the SJHL’s Estevan Bruins, helping the team to three straight division titles and a league championship in 2021-22.
Fife says he is thrilled for this new opportunity and to join the Amherst community.
“I’m honoured to be selected as the next head coach and general manager of the Amherst Ramblers. I’m very excited for this next chapter in my life and look forward to becoming a member of the Amherst community. Moreover, I’m thrilled for the opportunity to work with the community of Amherst in building a team that can bring entertainment and involvement to the community on and off the ice.”
The Ormocto, New Brunswick native also boasts a successful junior hockey career as a player in the MHL winning two league championships in three seasons.
Ramblers President Ron Lake is excited to have a winner behind the bench for the Ramblers.
“The Amherst Ramblers are pleased to have Phil join our organization. He’s been a winner everywhere he’s been and to be part of an organization that has won the SJHL Championship last year he knows what it takes and how to take a team to the top. Having a conversation with his then-boss Jason Tatarnic, he had nothing but praise for Phil, and said he is ready to make that jump to head coach and lead his team to the next level while being in the community. He will be living in Amherst, so being a part of the community is high on his list.”
Fife’s former boss with the Bruins Jason Tatarnic says Fife is ready to make the jump to the head coach position and knows how to win.
“As a coach, it’s very rewarding to have a former player work with you. Phil won a championship for me as a player and we won a championship together as coaches. He knows how to win and now understands the process as a coach. He’s ready to be a head coach and he will be successful.“
After Fife finished his junior hockey years he would go on to play four seasons of Usport hockey at the University of Waterloo.
