The Dalhousie Tigers have announced that Amherst Ramblers forward Jonah Jelley has committed to the university’s team for 2025-26.
The 21-year-old from Charlottetown, P.E.I. was drafted in the 2nd Round, 21st overall, by the Summerside Western Capitals in the 2020 MHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Amherst in a trade just before the start of the 2021-22 season and suited up for the Ramblers during the 2021-22 playoffs, where he had one goal and one assist in three games. In 2022-23, Jelley played 21 games for Amherst with five goals and eleven assists.
Jelley had a breakout season in 2023-24, finishing tenth in league scoring with 70 points in 51 games. He led the Ramblers in goals (26) and assists (44). Jelley was named an Honourable Mention for the league’s Top Forward award in February 2024 and won the honour in March. He was also named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week three times. In the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs, Jelley scored seven goals and seven assists in leading the Ramblers with fourteen points.
Overcoming injury in 2024-25, Jelley had three goals and sixteen assists in 21 games, in addition to one assist in six playoff games. Jelley also received the Carter’s Sports Cresting Leadership and Academic Award from the Ramblers.
“I’m super excited to get the opportunity to play hockey and attend such an amazing school like Dal.” Says Jelley. “I think there is a lot to look forward to and I cannot wait to get started.”
Jelley will be studying law, justice and society
“An assistant captain with his junior team, Jonah is known as a tenacious and relentless competitor,” says Tigers men’s hockey head coach Chris Donnelly. “Jonah will bring plenty of energy to our program and he also possesses a scoring touch that will be welcomed to improve our team’s offensive output”
The MHL congratulates Jelley on his post-secondary commitment.
