Red Wings’ Bernier commits to Ontario Tech University

The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks have announced that Gabriel Bernier of the Fredericton Red Wings has committed to their program for the 2022-23 season.

The 21-year-old from Victoriaville, Quebec was sixth in Maritime Junior Hockey League scoring during the 2021-22 season with 21 goals and 32 assists in 36 games. Bernier had two goals and five assists in ten games in the Canadian Tire Cup Playoffs as the Red Wings were eliminated by the eventual league champion Summerside Western Capitals in the Eastlink North Division Final. He was a Player of the Week three times during the regular season.

“Gabriel is going to be a great addition to our program,” says head coach Curtis Hodgins. “He is very gifted offensively and will upgrade our skill level up front without question, but he also has some good size and can skate. I believe Gabriel will be a great U SPORTS player and we look forward to him joining our program in the fall.”

Bernier played 66 games in the QCHL between 2018-19 and 2019-20, tallying 37 goals and 44 assists. The next season, he played 27 games with the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL, where he had eight goals and four assists.

The MHL congratulates Bernier on his post-secondary commitment.
