Red Wings’ Welton commits to Royal Military College

The Royal Military College Paladins have announced that Fredericton Red Wings defenseman Dell Welton has committed to their program for 2023-24.

The 20-year-old from Baddeck, N.S. was selected 55th overall by the Truro Bearcats in the 2018 MHL Entry Draft. He played just one game for the Bearcats in 2018-19, but was a full-time member of the blueline in 2019-20 where he had six goals and five assists in 45 games. Welton played 28 games in 2020-21, tallying two goals and five assists. He was held pointless in four games during the Canadian Tire Cup Playoff Round-Robin that season. Welton was also named the MHL Scholastic Player of the Year.

Welton started the 2021-22 season with Truro, playing in 20 games with one goal and five assists, before being dealt to Fredericton near the trade deadline. With the Red Wings, he had one goal and six assists in thirteen games in addition to two assists in ten games during the playoffs.

In his final season, Welton played all 52 games for the Red Wings with five goals and seventeen assists. He was selected to the Eastlink North’s Team of the Week once.
