GRAND FALLS –Sandy McCarthy will not be returning behind the bench next season as head coach of the Grand Falls Rapids. McCarthy said he regrets the decision but wishes the players and the organization the best of luck for the future.
As a former NHL player, McCarthy brought some great experience to the team and was a mentor to his players both on and off the ice. After spending many seasons in the pro ranks, McCarthy started his coaching career in the MHL in 2015 with the Woodstock Slammers before the team moved to Grand Falls last season.
Also known as a great motivator, McCarthy will always be remembered as the first head coach who guided the Rapids into their first season and transition into the league.
The Rapids’ organization would like to thank Sandy McCarthy for everything he has done for the team and for the community. Without his knowledge and passion for the game, this past season would have been much more difficult to adapt to its new surroundings.
For the moment, the team has not decided on a replacement for McCarthy behind the bench.

GRAND-SAULT – L’entraîneur-chef Sandy McCarthy ne sera pas de retour la saison prochaine derrière le banc des Rapides de Grand-Sault. McCarthy dit regretter cette décision, mais précise toutefois qu’il souhaite la meilleure des chances aux joueurs ainsi qu’à l’organisation envers les plans futurs de l’équipe.
En tant qu’ancien joueur de la LNH, McCarthy a apporté un bagage d’expérience très imposant auprès de l’équipe et il a été un mentor pour ses joueurs, même hors de la patinoire. Après un séjour de plusieurs saisons dans les rangs professionnel, McCarthy a débuté sa carrière d’entraîneur dans la LHM en 2015 avec les Slammers de Woodstock avant que l’équipe déménage à Grand-Sault lors de la dernière campagne.
Également connu comme étant un grand motivateur, McCarthy sera toujours reconnu comme avoir été le premier entraîneur-chef à avoir guidé et dirigé les Rapides.
L’organisation des Rapides désire remercier Sandy McCarthy pour tous les services apportés à l’équipe ainsi qu’auprès de la communauté. Sans ses connaissances approfondies dans le domaine du hockey ainsi que sa grande passion pour son sport, la transition vers un nouvel environnement aurait été beaucoup plus difficile.
Pour le moment, l’équipe n’a pas pris la décision à savoir qui succèdera à McCarthy en tant qu’entraîneur-chef.
