Simon Mullen of Summerside Western Capitals (MHL) named CJHL’s Top Defenceman for 2025-26
TORONTO – The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) announced Friday that Simon Mullen of the Summerside Western Capitals (MHL) has been named the recipient of its Top Defenceman Award for the 2025-26 season.
Mullen picked up the honours of fellow Top Defenceman finalists Mathys Laurent, Rockland Nationals (CCHL); Reid Forster, Burlington Cougars (OJHL): Spencer Horgan, Greater Sudbury Cubs (NOJHL); Thomas Ries, Yorkton Terriers (SJHL) and Quentin Bourne, Whitecourt Wolverines (AJHL), following a voting process completed by the CJHL’s nine-member leagues, for their respective efforts, during the course of the campaign.
The 20-year-old, who hails from Truro, N.S., paced all Maritime Hockey League blueliners in points, with 68 in 52 games, which also tied him for seventh overall among all skaters.
Mullen led the MHL in powerplay assists (28) as well as total man advantage points (33) and was second in helpers (54) in all on-ice situations.
He tied for second among blueliners in man advantage markers (5), total tallies (14), and shared second in shorthanded goals (2) from the back end.
During the campaign, Mullen registered a 24-game point, which was the second highest in the MHL this season.
Contributing a 15-game road assist streak as well, Mullen went on to average over 25 minutes of ice-time per-game for Summerside.
Additional accolades for the Western Capitals rearguard was being tabbed the MHL’s Defenceman of the Month twice and earning Honourable Mention for the same award once. He also went on to be named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week nine times.
