Estevan, Sask. –  The Summerside Western Capitals dropped to 1-1-0 at the 2022 Centennial Cup after a 7-1 loss to the Dauphin Kings. The MJHL champions took advantage of some penalty trouble for the Western Capitals, going 5 for 7 on the powerplay.

Summerside outshot Dauphin 10-8 in the first period, but the game remained scoreless. A powerplay goal at 3:50 of the 2nd period opened the scoring for Dauphin. That score remained until late into the period when the Kings would score twice in 18 seconds, at 15:31 and 15:49, to build a 3-0 lead. Another goal on the man advantage for Dauphin at 17:31 would lead to a goaltending change, as Jacob Leblanc replaced Felix-Anthony Ethier, but Dauphin made it a five-goal period with a powerplay goal at 18:22.

While shots were 18-9 for Dauphin in the 2nd period, they were 17-8 for Summerside in the 3rd period. The parade to the penalty box continued with Dauphin adding goals at 11:59 and 13:00 of the final period, the latter on the powerplay. Summerside got on the scoresheet at 17:05 as William Irvine found the back of the net on the powerplay for the Western Capitals.
