Estevan, Sask. – Summerside improved to 2-1-0 at the 2022 Centennial Cup following a 4-1 win over the SJHL’s Flin Flon Bombers on Monday. The Western Capitals are now in second place in Group B, tied with the MJHL’s Dauphin Kings with six points. The top three teams in the group advance out of the preliminary round.

Summerside fell behind early, as the Bombers scored just 2:32 into the 1st period. They kept the pressure on throughout the opening frame, however, outshooting Flin Flon 17-8. Thomas Lacombe tied the game at 11:13 and Jacob Stewart put Summerside on top 2-1 at 19:19.

The Western Capitals carried that momentum into the 2nd period where Aaron Brown scored a powerplay goal at 1:31, and Colby MacArthur extended the lead to 4-1 with a goal at 6:23. The Bombers went 0 for 5 on the powerplay against Summerside, who outshot Flin Flon 33-31 in securing the win.

Summerside have one game left in the preliminary round, facing the CCHL champion Ottawa Jr. Senators on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Atlantic Time. The Western Capitals need one point in that game to ensure they advance to the quarterfinals on Friday. A win would clinch 2nd place in the group. Watch the game live on Hockey Canada’s website.
