Benwell commits to Wilfrid Laurier University

The Fredericton Red Wings have announced that forward Evan Benwell has committed to Wilfrid Laurier University for the 2021-22 season.

The 21-year-old from Toronto, ON was acquired in December from the Whitby Fury of the OJHL. Previously, Benwell had spent time with the Toronto Patriots and Burlington Cougars of the OJHL, Notre Dame Hounds of the SJHL, and both the Nanaimo Clippers and Merritt Centennials of the BCHL.

In sixteen games with the Red Wings, Benwell had nine goals and eight assists, which tied him for third in team scoring. During the Canadian Tire Cup Eastlink North Playoff Round-Robin, Benwell had one goal and three assists in four games as the Red Wings secured the first seed and await their opponent in the Division Final.

The MHL congratulates Benwell on his post-secondary commitment.
