Blizzard one win from Metalfab MHL Cup Final with Game 5 victory

The Edmundston Blizzard doubled up the Chaleur Lightning 4-2 on Thursday night at Centre Jean Daigle to take a 3-2 lead in the Eastlink North Division Final.

Darien Thomson got the Blizzard on the board at 5:59 of the 1st period, where they were outshot by Chaleur 13-8. The Lightning tied the game at 3:34 of the 2nd period with a goal from Sam Rocca, but Émile Fournier answered at 7:08 to give Edmundston the lead back. The Blizzard took a 3-1 lead on a goal from Michael Derbidge at 11:51 despite being outshot 21-5 in the middle frame.

Michael Arsenault put the home side up 4-1 with his seventh goal of the playoffs at 10:33 of the 3rd period. Mason Cook cut the lead back to 4-2 at 13:32, but that’s as close as Chaleur would get.

Cedric Massé made 37 saves in the win, while Jack Flanagan had 24 saves in the loss. Game 6 is back in Bathurst on Saturday.
