Summerside win Game 5 to avoid elimination

Summerside score four goals in the 1st period en route to a Game 5 win

With their backs against the wall, Summerside have forced a Game 6 back in Truro on Sunday night after a 4-2 win over the Bearcats on Friday.

The Western Capitals erupted for four goals in the 1st period, chasing Bearcats goaltender Sam Berthiaume for the first time in the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs. Henry Ouellet started the scoring at 5:22, followed by Lane Sim at 7:49, Brett Arsenault at 10:35, and finally Alexandre Guy at 13:29.

The Bearcats got one goal back just 21 seconds into the 2nd period off the stick of Drew Keiver. Samuel Vachon scored Truro’s first powerplay goal of the series at 14:21 to cut the Summerside lead to 4-2.

Neither team scored in the 3rd period, sending Summerside to victory. Kolton Bourret made 21 saves for the win, while Louca Connolly stopped all 21 shots he faced after entering the game in the 1st period for Truro. Berthiaume stopped eight of the twelve shots he faced.

The Bearcats lead the Eastlink South Division Final 3-2.
