Notes
-
- This is the first time Edmundston and Pictou County have met in the league final. However, two seasons before the move to Edmundston, the Dieppe Commandos battled the Crushers in 2015-16. Pictou County won that series and the league title in six games. The Blizzard are back in the league final for the second time in three seasons. They were swept by Yarmouth in 2022-23.
- Two of the MHL’s most prolific goal-scorers will battle in this series with the Rookie of the Year, Edmundston’s Émile Fournier, and regular season scoring champion Lucas Canning for Pictou County. Fournier leads the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs with eleven goals in nine games, while Canning has nine goals in nine games. In the regular season, Canning had 53 while Fournier was third with 37.
- Both teams generate a lot of offense from their defensemen, with 26 total points each. All seven blueliners for Edmundston have registered at least one point in the playoffs. The same can be said for six of Pictou County’s seven defensemen, including Drew Maddigan who has twelve points; the same amount as Fournier.
- The Crushers did incredible work on the penalty kill in the Eastlink South Division Final, holding Truro to 0 for 18 on the powerplay. That brought their penalty kill percentage from 70% in round one to 84.2%.
- Edmundston’s special teams have been better on the road than at home so far in the playoffs. The Blizzard have the league’s best powerplay (27.3%) and penalty kill (88.2%) away from Centre Jean-Daigle.
- How much will the schedule affect goaltending decisions? It seems likely Thomas Fontaine will continue to start every game for the Crushers, but Edmundston have all but an exact split in minutes between Austin Caley and Frédéric Cousineau. The teams will play two back-to-back sets in the first four games, with Games 1-4 taking place over seven days.
