Newhook commits to Connecticut College

The Fredericton Red Wings have announced that defensemen Devan Newhook has committed to Connecticut College, an NCAA Division 3 school, for the 2021-2022 season.

The 21-year-old from St. John’s, Newfoundland was acquired from the CCHL’s Pembroke Lumber Kings in January. In twelve games with Fredericton, Newhook registered two goals and sixteen assists for eighteen points. He had five assists in four games during the Canadian Tire Cup Playoff Round Robin and another three assists in helping the Red Wings capture the Eastlink North title with a two-game sweep. Newhook was also awarded the MHL’s top defenseman months for March/April.

“Devan is an exceptionally good player, a passionate young man who challenges himself to have success,” says Red Wings Head Coach Brian Casey. “He has been such a key player to our team’s success on and off the ice, and we can’t thank him enough for his contribution to our organization. We are proud that Devan has this opportunity to study and play at a very respectful institution like Connecticut College and our organization wish him so much success.”

The MHL congratulates Newhook on his post-secondary commitment.
