An exciting first month of the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) season comes to an end this week. The Pictou County Weeks Crushers are the only remaining unbeaten squad and were the only MHL team to make the inaugural CJHL Top 20 rankings for the 2019-20 season at #14. Two more squads will hold their home opener, and there has yet to be an overtime or shootout through 20 games. What does this week have in store?

The action kicks off Wednesday in Amherst as the Truro Bearcats (0-2-0-0) look for their first win of the season in Amherst (1-2-0-0). The Ramblers dropped a close 3-2 game against Pictou County (2-0-0-0) last Thursday before picking up their first win of the season on the road against Valley with a 4-3 decision. The Bearcats made consecutive trips to Yarmouth (4-1-0-0) to open the season, falling 3-2 last Friday.

Truro play three games in four days this week, and are back on the ice Thursday for a matchup against the division rival Crushers in New Glasgow. This game will be broadcast live on Eastlink Community TV, channels 10 and 610 with Kevin Northup, Paul MacDonald, and Mavs Gillis, and is also available, as always, on HockeyTV. The other Thursday game has Miramichi (0-3-0-0) looking for their first win of the 2019-20 campaign as they host Summerside (3-1-0-0). The Western Capitals are coming off a tough stretch of three games in three nights as they blitzed through Edmundston (3-1-0-0), Fredericton (2-2-0-0), and finally Grand Falls (0-3-0-0) last week, winning two of three. The Timberwolves’ lone game was a 4-2 home loss to Edmundston on Saturday.

The Eastlink South-leading Yarmouth Mariners head out of province for two straight games and kick things off Friday in Fredericton. Yarmouth have been busy in September, having already played five games. Last week saw three games in three days with victories over South Shore (3-1-0-0) and Truro before a 5-1 loss at home to Campbellton (2-1-0-0). The Red Wings had their much anticipated opening weekend, picking up a 5-1 win over Grand Falls before a 7-2 loss to Summerside. Elsewhere on Friday, Edmundston begin a Nova Scotia road trip with a game in Valley (0-3-0-0), Campbellton hit the road to play the Rapids, and Amherst heads to South Shore to face the Lumberjacks in the MHL Game of the Week which is free to watch on HockeyTV.

There are five games on tap Saturday. Yarmouth goes across the Confederation Bridge for a big early-season tilt against Summerside for the Western Capitals’ home opener. Truro hosts Valley as the Bearcats kick off their home schedule at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre. In the other games, Fredericton heads to Miramichi, Pictou plays in South Shore, and Edmundston take on the Ramblers in Amherst.

Finally, Miramichi play their third game in four nights as they visit Grand Falls for an afternoon matchup.

Catch all of the action on HockeyTV.
